I was lucky to capture this striking black-and-white photograph of a sudden snow strike on the scene, while fog drapes the tree line below. I had been trudging through Yosemite Valley snow on a cold and damp January morning, and I was tired and looking for something interesting to show its face to me. As I was walking up to this iconic wall of granite, the early morning light suddenly sliced through the clouds, revealing the raw and timeless energy that defines Yosemite. The interplay of light and shadow, combined with the crisp film texture, hopefully invites you into a moment both fleeting and eternal — a quiet yet powerful testament to nature’s grandeur that I felt that morning.
I captured this image using a Mamiya medium format camera with an 80mm lens, and with Ilford Delta 100 Professional film.
